Some things are really starting to bug me:Brett Kline REALLY?! He has slept with hundreds of women and broken up with Eva years ago now all of a sudden he's in love with her and wants to have a relationship? And Gideon is the love of Eva's life but she is still a little confused about the guy she hasn't seen in forever? Also the sub-plot about the sex tape kind of confused me... at one point did they say Brett and his manager or someone wanted to use the footage publicly? Really?!Cary is just a freeloader with baggage at this point right?! Where is all the money from him being a model for this clothing company? Why doesn't anyone else think it's bazaar that Eva is married to the love of her life with all the money in the world but Cary has to have an attached apartment in the penthouse? Really? Eva never calls him out on his bullsh*t by the way, why is she so blindly devoted to him? Did she really tell Trey that it might not be a bad idea to stay in the background of Cary's life while he sleeps with EVERYONE AND has a freaking baby with another women?! Really?! Cary is really sick and selfish and needs HELP and a STD check ASAP.Eva is immature and scared but she was a tad bit more likeable in this book. Does it seem to anyone else that Gideon and Eva's sexual relationship is a little odd and may be unhealthy and that they have sex at times because they don't know what else to do?Why does Gideon have BILLIONS of dollars and still act like he has a 9-5? A man this powerful wouldn't be dealing with half of the small stuff that seems to occupy most of his time, he would have people for that.I could go on, but those are the things that just really stuck out, and if they think I'm waiting another year for more of this, they are sadly mistaken.Monica shamelessly sleeps with anyone too and they all just smile in Stanton's face and use his money and resources? Really?! 2.5 stars. I started reading this book in the hopes that the story would redeem itself from the third installment but sadly, while it may have been better than the third, it was no where close to being as strongly written as the first two installments. I felt there was too much and yet not enough; too much unnecessary drama, too much unjustifiable internal and external conflicts and dare I say, too much gratuitous sex that felt more filler than story forwarding. To me, it felt like this book was another bridge to the conclusion but a bridge that never needed to be crossed, like when your GPS leads you way off course.The book itself was written well but the story wasn't tight at all. There were too many subplots going on and I could see what the author was trying to do and how these side plots were supposed to play into the overall story arc to get to the point of the climax but they all felt rather contrived and more like filler.As for Gideon. Well, I liked that we got his point of view but I'm still waffling over my feelings over his head space. While he was completely aware of Eva's issues with certain things, he acted like he was completely justified in railroading over them himself. Yet, I suppose that was to be expected to a certain extent. If a man goes as far as to kill someone for someone they love, there really isn't much they can be expected not to do. But over all, I felt the more Eva was making an effort to put herself together, the more Gideon unraveled. And what is it with the women in his life? Are they all mentally unhinged? The only normal female he seems to know is his sister.Overall, it wasn't a bad read but it was just disappointing. The story felt scattered, unfocused and many things unjustified. Rising tension came in spits and spurts and at points instead of biting my nails with anticipation, I felt myself asking "oh for crying out loud, what now?" with an eye roll. I was pleased with where it ended but I struggled most with how it got there. It feels like this book and the previous one were ways to make more money and bilk the fans and I don't like that feeling. I will likely buy the next (and hopefully last) installment and I can only hope the wait this time around won't be as long.
